About AstraExplained
AstraExplained is an independent, plain-English guide to OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model — what it is, what the benchmark scores actually mean, what it can and cannot do, and the incidents worth knowing about. No hype, no affiliate deals, no affiliation with OpenAI.
Why this site exists
When a frontier model launches, the internet fills up within days with two kinds of coverage: press releases rewritten as news, and hot takes written by people who never read the system card. Very little of it answers the practical questions a normal professional has: What does this model actually do? What do these benchmark numbers mean for my work? Where does it fail?
This site sits in that gap. Every guide takes one question — pricing, context limits, computer use, a viral failure, a benchmark score — and explains it in plain English with the fine print attached.
How the facts are verified
- Multi-source checking: every number published on this site is checked against multiple independent sources on the day of publication — official announcements, benchmark publishers, system cards, and reputable coverage.
- Honest framing: where a claim is vendor-stated but unverified, or where a benchmark has known caveats, the caveat is printed next to the number — not buried at the bottom. Our honest benchmarks guide explains why published scores disagree.
- Dated updates: every page carries an "Updated" date, and when a fact changes, the page gets a dated correction instead of a silent edit where possible.
- Unknowns stay unknown: when a number has not been published (a quota, a price, a limit), the page says so instead of guessing.
Independence and advertising
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI. "GPT-6" and "Astra" are referenced for identification and commentary purposes. The site may display advertising (currently Google AdSense) to cover hosting costs — ads never determine what gets covered or how it is framed. There are no paid reviews, affiliate links, or sponsored posts.
