GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's most powerful AI model, released on September 3, 2026. Its defining skill: instead of just answering questions, it can operate a computer end-to-end — clicking through apps, browsing the web, and finishing multi-step tasks on its own.

What makes it different from GPT-5.6 Sol?
Three things stand out:
- It uses visual interfaces. Astra navigates software by seeing the screen — it worked in professional tools it was never specifically trained on, like PCB design software.
- It verifies its own work. OpenAI describes System-2-style reasoning: Astra checks high-stakes math and self-corrects before presenting results.
- It's faster per task. On OSWorld 2.0 (a computer-use benchmark), Astra scored 72.6% versus Sol's 65.7% — while taking about 47% less time per task.
What it's NOT
